Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

As we age our skin loses its elasticity and natural ability to fully recover post facial expression. Ageing is indeed a celebration of life but sometimes we can want to feel a little fresher. Dr Nadine commonly hears complaints of make-up gathering in lines, feeling tired and drawn and simply just wanting to look more rested but natural.

Dr Nadine carefully places anti-wrinkle injections to reduce wrinkles and prevent further lines from appearing. Many clients attend in an effort to promote preventative ageing. This is a stage when a line is beginning to remain when the face is at rest.

Azzalure® contains a substance called botulinum toxin A which causes muscles to relax. Wrinkles are formed by excessive contraction of the facial muscles. Injection of small quantities of botulinum toxin A blocks the nerve impulse to the muscle, causing it to relax and in turn smooth the overlying skin to reduce wrinkles.

Anti-wrinkle injections are prescription-only medication which is why it is so important that you visit a trained medical professional to ensure you are receiving licenced products.

The administered dosage correlates to the degree of stiffness achieved. Dr. Nadine aims to soften lines so that an individual appears fresh not frozen. Although associated as an anti-wrinkle treatment it can also be used to treat migraines, excess underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis), and relieve masseter pain due to excessive grinding. Dr. Nadine also performs a Nefertiti Neck Lift using anti-wrinkle injections to soften the constant depressive force of platysmal neckbands.

Anti-wrinkle Injection Patient Journey

Step 1:
Carefully read our website to educate yourself pre- treatment.

Step 2:
Book a consultation via our website. A €50 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking.

Step 3:
Avoid Alcohol, caffeine and ibuprofens for 24-48 hours pre- treatment to reduce the risk of bruising.

Step 4:
Attend your consultation wearing no make-up. This will enable Dr Nadine to make a full skin analysis.

Step 5:
Dr Nadine will explain the suitable treatment areas for your skin needs.

Step 6:
Treatment may be performed on the same day as consultation if both you as the patient and Dr Nadine are in agreement that anti-wrinkle injections are a suitable treatment option for you. Alternatively take some more time to consider your options and book your treatment appointment for a later date.

Step 7:
Read our aftercare email.

Key important points:
– Do not apply make-up for the remainder of your treatment day.
– Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours post injection.
– To reduce the risk of bruising avoid alcohol, ibuprofens and caffeine for 24-48 hours post injection.
– Avoid eyebrow treatments and facials for two weeks post injection.

Step 8: It will take 14 days for your Anti-wrinkle injections to activate. It is important to understand during this time a slight asymmetry may be present. For example if you naturally have a lower eyelid sometimes due to sleeping more on that side, then that area of treatment will relax quicker than your stronger eyebrow. Stay rest assured that at your review appointment generally 14-21 days post injection any necessary ‘tweaks’ will be performed by Dr Nadine.

Step 9:
If you have deeper resting lines treatments such as Morpheus8 and microneedling will help soften lines more quickly.

Step 10:
Anti-wrinkle injections are effective for 3-4 months. It is advisable to keep to this timeline for your return injections to avoid creasing skin in between visits.

FAQs

WILL MY LINES BE COMPLETELY GONE AFTER MY FIRST TREATMENT?

Your resting lines will certainly be softer 14 days post injections but they will not be completely gone. That is the importance of commencing treatment early so that the resting line is not very deep.  If your lines are significantly deep you should try and stick to a strict timeline of anti-wrinkle injections every three months. Also consider combining treatment with Morpheus8 or microneedling skin resurfacing to help soften resting line depth.

What are the possible side effects?
  • Clients seldom bruise but when needles are involved it is always a viable risk.
  • A tension headache may be experienced post-treatment for a few days while the muscles are beginning to relax.
  • If the frontalis (forehead) muscle is over relaxed it may cause drooping of the eyelids.
  • Risk of infection. Dr. Nadine strongly encourages wearing no make-up after treatment for the remainder of the day to minimise this risk.
  • Allergic reaction
  • Blurred vision
  • Discomfort from the needle
  • Eyelid swelling
  • Redness, swelling, itching, numbness, irritation, rash
What age should I be for treatment?

Legally you must be over eighteen to receive anti-wrinkle injections. Dr. Nadine has experience in treating clients of this age to help underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). Due to her background knowledge of being a qualified dentist she also regularly treats clients with masseter pain.

Her belief is that once lines of facial expression become evident when your face is at rest, you may then consider treatment. This is the idea of preventative ageing and early intervention to maintain a youthful fresh appearance.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS TO ACTIVATE?

It will take 14 days for the results to fully activate. Although muscle tightening can be experienced as early as day 3.

WILL MY TREATMENT HURT?

Dr Nadine uses a small insulin needle to deliver your injections therefore your treatment will be extremely comfortable. Even the most nervous patients have found the treatment very comfortable.

WILL I LOOK FROZEN POST ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

Certainly not! Dr Nadine is known for achieving soft, natural results. She commonly hears I want to ‘be done, but not look done’. You can still have movement and the ability to raise your eyebrows post anti-wrinkle injections. This is when it is important to do your research and investigate the style of your injector.

CAN I HAVE OTHER TREATMENTS IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

Yes, it is important to consider other complimentary treatments such as microneedling/ hydrafacials to improve skin quality and skin health. It is just important to always refrain from any treatments during the 14 days post your anti-wrinkle injections.

CAN I HAVE MULTIPLE AREAS TREATED WITH ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS ON THE SAME DAY?

As long as Dr Nadine confirms your areas of treatment are suitable it is possible to have multiple areas injected on the same day.

IF I HAVE A SPECIAL OCCASION WHEN IS THE IDEAL TIME FOR TREATMENT?

In the case of a bride-to-be for instance results are most natural 6 weeks post injection. Dr Nadine recommends you attend for treatment 4-6 weeks before your event date.

Important Aftercare advice
  • Wear no make-up post procedure for the remainder of the treatment day.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • Gently cleanse in a sweeping motion away from eyes
  • Avoid any form of eyebrow procedures for 2 weeks post-treatment.
  • Avoid facials for 2 weeks post-treatment.
  • No strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine and ibuprofen for 24-48 hours post injections to reduce the risk of bruising.
  • Avoid extreme pressures of heat like sauna, steam room, hot tub for 2 weeks.
  • Dr. Nadine encourages a 2-week review post-treatment if you are a first time patient.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

To continue softening a resting line it is important to repeat treatment every 3-4 months. It is possible to have treatment less often but your results and softening of resting lines will not be as successful.

IF I STOP MY TREATMENT WILL MY LINES LOOK WORSE?

Your lines will not become worse they will just return to their original depth. Regardless of anti-wrinkle injections with age lines can become deeper as our collagen and elastin reserves reduce.
